With R P Watal's extended tenure nearing its end, speculations are rife about his successor. The outgoing Expenditure Secretary R P Watal (IAS:1979:AP) is due to retire on April 30. His scheduled superannuation date was February 29 this year. Since Budget preparation was in full swing, his services were extended till April 30.
Indianmandarins has learnt that the incumbent Banking Secretary (Dept of Financial Services) Ms Anjuli Chib Duggal (IAS:1981:PB) may be laterally shifted as Secretary Expenditure by the end of this month.
At the same time, Civil Aviation Secretary R N Chaubey (IAS:1981:TN) and Environment, Forest &CC Secretary Ashok Lavasa (IAS:1980:HY) too are being seen as a possible replacement for Watal.
It is, though, understood that it would be rather difficult to find a replacement for Chaubey and Lavasa in their respective ministries.
