Speculations are rife about the next chairman of the CBDT as the incumbent, Sushil Chandra (IRS IT:1980), may retire on 31 May 2017. Among the names thrown around is that of Nishi Singh who's next in hierarchy. The problem is her tenure may also come to an end in the next few months. One rumor is that, since Chandra also heads the investigation wing, he may be given an extension to particularly deal with the pending complicated issues arising out of demonetization.
