The appointment of new Defence and Home Secretaries may significantly impact the appointment of next Cabinet Cabinet Secretary in June 2018, when PK Sinha will complete his one-year extended tenure. While Indianmandarins will discuss in the next few days the entire gamut of the issues that may crop up following the two top level appointments, it looks the files on several top appointments is really moving fast. Indianmandarins has learned that the outgoing Power Secretary, Pradeep Kumar Pujari (IAS:1981:GJ), may be picked up as next Defence Secretary - a post which is set to fall vacant this month.The outgoing Defence Secretary, G Mohan Kumar (IAS:1979: OR), will complete his two years fixed tenure on 24 May 2017. Mohan Kumar took over from R K Mathur on 25 May 2015 after handing over the charge of Secretary, Defence Production, to Ashok Kumar Gupta (IAS:1981:TN). There are also speculations that either Ashok Lavasa (IAS:1981:HY) or A K Gupta (Secretary, Defence Production) could also be picked up for the job if Pujari's appointment doesn't come through. C K Mishra (IAS:1983:BH), too, is considered to be a fit person for Defence secretary as he acquired a fair degree of experience and insight as PS to former Defence Secretary, George Fernandes.
