The
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has the choice of forming a panel of
three officers for the posts of AP DGP from a list of six forwarded by the AP
government. Reportedly,
the names of the following officers appear in the state government list: VSK Kaumudi (DG, BPR&D); Gautam Sawang, R P Thakur (Commissioner, printing and stationery), (all
from the 1986 batch), T.A. Tripathi, N.V. Surendra Babu and A.R. Anuradha of
the 1987 batch. The
list was prepared in accordance with the SC guidelines to complete the
formality, even though the state government has already appointed Sawang as the
DGP. The reason for Sawang's ad hoc appointment till the formality is complete
is triggered by reports that the seniormost 1986 batch IPS officer Kaumudi may
be not inclined to return from the central deputation. Since
Thakur invited a panoply of allegations during the elections and accused of
falsely implicating a number of government employees in ACB cases, it may be a
surprise if his name is at all recommended by the UPSC for consideration as
state DGP.
