Former IPS officer M L Sharma, who served as the Central Information Commissioner, was recently  asked to investigate into allegations against a former additional secretary in the I&B Ministry. Sharma did what he was asked and submitted the inquiry report and received a cheque from the I&B Ministry for his services. But ministry officials later realised that TDS had not been deducted and asked him to return the cheque. Sharma informed them that he would rather pay back the differential, and gave the ministry a cheque equivalent to the TDS amount. But the cheque issued to him by the ministry could not be cleared the first time due to technical reasons. He had to submit it a second time to get the money.
