Unique arrangement: Telangana gets a new DGP, an IPS as Special CS Home

8618Hyderabad (10.07.2024): Amid a slew of
bureaucratic reshuffle post Lok Sabha elections, the change of guard in the
police department is interesting. The Telangana government has appointed Dr
Jitender (IPS: 1992: TG), Principal Secretary to Government, Home Department,
as Director General of Police (Head of Police Force) of the state while
incumbent DGP (HoPF) Ravi Gupta (IPS: 1990: TG) has been posted as Special
Chief Secretary to Government, Home Department. It may be underlined that Ravi Gupta was
appointed as interim DGP after DGP Anjani Kumar (IPS: 1990: TG) was suspended
for offering bouquet to incumbent CM A Revanth Reddy when the Congress had won
Telangana Assembly elections. Ravi Gupta has now been given a new assignment as
Special Chief Secretary (Home). Apparently, this is the first time that an IPS
officers has been entrusted with the responsibility of Special Chief Secretary,
Home. However, many states, including Sikkim and Maharashtra, nowadays post IPS
