New Delhi (08.06.2022): The incumbent Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati- India’s Public Broadcaster Shashi Shekhar Vempati’s tenure is ending today. He is also holding the additional charge of Chairman, Prasar Bharati as an interim arrangement. As per rules the relieving process has been already been initiated on Tuesday. As CEO he has been overseeing the transformation of broadcasting (TV/ Radio) across the twin networks of Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR). A section of insiders believes that there could be a surprise as well. Sources indicate that the Centre may give a fresh lease to his career as CEO, PB on his last day in office by extending the tenure if not for a full second term but for a period of six months or for a year. It may be underlined that prior to becoming the youngest and the first non-bureaucrat as CEO of the public broadcaster in June 2017 for a term of five years Vempati was associated with the public broadcaster group as a part time member of the board since February 2016. In December 2020 Vempati was elected as the Vice President of Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), one of the largest broadcasting associations in the world. (By Rakesh Ranjan)
