ten-shortlisted-for-sebi-chief-post Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that the search-cum-selection-committee (SCSC) headed by Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha on 2nd December screened as many as ten candidates (out of 40 applications) for the top post of SEBI. Among the shortlisted candidates figure the names of Union Power Secretary P K Pujari (IAS:1981:GJ); DIPAM (Disinvestment) Secretary Neeraj Kumar Gupta (IAS:1982:UP); former Labour Secretary Shankar Agarwal (IAS:1980:UP); former Member, SEBI Rajeev Kumar Agarwal; and Ajay Tyagi  (IAS:1984:HP), Additional Secretary (Investment) in Dept of Economic Affairs. Sources said Finance Secretary Shaktikant Das may also be in the race despite his being a member of the selection panel. There are said to be provisions in the SCSC to consider even people who have not applied for the post. In addition to the above-mentioned names three candidates have been shortlisted from outside the govt and belong to the banking and private sector. It may be noted that the outgoing SEBI Chief Uttam Kumar Sinha (Retd IAS:1976: withBH) is set to complete his one-year extended tenure on February 17, 2017. The post was advertised in September this year in which 40 applications were screened. The longest serving SEBI chief, Sinha assumed office on February 18, 2011.  He was initially appointed for a three-year term and later given a two-year extension. In August 2015, the government had initiated the process for selecting Sinha's successor. However, no consensus could be reached on the names suggested by the panel which led to the reappointment of Sinha on 15th February 2016 for a one-year period ending 17 February 2017. It may be recalled that last year the panel had shortlisted SBI Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya, former FMC Chairman Ramesh Abhishek and Thomas Mathew who has earlier served as Joint Secretary (Capital Markets) in Finance Ministry.
