Indianmandarins had speculated first on 25 January 2017 (see weblink below) about thepossibility of a twist in the appointment of Delhi Police Commissioner which clearly indicated that Amulya Kumar Patnaik (IPS:1985:UT) might not be ruled out despite the two batch-mates Dharmendra Kumar and Deepak Mishra lead the race for the top job. The formal orders to this effect are out noiw. Patnaik is appointed as new Police Commissioner of Delhi. It may be underlined again that of the three main contenders; Dharmendra Kumar and Deepak Mishra are serving as ADG in CISF and CRPF respectively on deputation whereas their junior officer Amullya Kumar Patnaik (IPS:1985:UT) is serving as senior most officer in Delhi Police. Though Patnaik is junior to the two main contenders, he is senior most in Delhi Police.
