What filled the 'imaginative space' with massive
speculations in the Mandarin circle recently, appears headed to be deemed
unsubstantiated. The newsflash about Rajeev Meharshi which came on a
reputed TV channel of him being appointed next J&K Governor. The guesswork
masters later flashed that Hasmukh Adhia would be next the CAG in place of Meharshi.
But what they ignored was the fact that smart speculations never fit the bills
in NaMo era, especially when the Govt's plate during the ongoing Monsoon
Session is already full with complex issues. Meharshi's career graph no doubt is iconic. As
Finance Secretary, Home Secretary and then at the coveted constitutional
position of CAG, he has proved his worth many times over. A career bureaucrat
would rather dream of a professional trajectory that Rajiv Meharshi already
have had. In fact, his assignments came one after the other and this perhaps
may be a record of sorts in the history of Indian Bureaucracy. But the bottom-line
is that all of this may not add up to the content of the newsflash discussed
above. One reason is that bigger fortunes for Meharshi as
of now isn't linked to Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia. What needs to be factored in, is that Adhia is
already reported to have conveyed to the PMO (in February itself) that he may
not be available for post-retirement assignments. His peers say that he aspires
to pursue meditative and spiritual life after retirement. Those who share
chords with Adhia say that he probably has already identified an ‘ashram’ in
Ahmedabad for his post-retirement sojourn. Going by this little input what can safely be
assumed is that prospects of Adhia being in the run for some position like CAG
and Meharshi being reassigned with another constitutional position, this time
Gubernatorial, appear to be obscure.
