The Apex Court Supreme in a path-breaking ruling said that assemblies and Parliament should rethink whether Speaker of a House should continue to have
powers to disqualify lawmakers as they belong to a particular political party. The SC recommended that Parliament should consider Speaker’s
disqualification powers with a permanent Tribunal headed by a retired SC Judge
or a retired Chief Justice of a High Court' or some other mechanism to ensure
swift and impartial decisions.
