Gautam Sawang (IPS:1986:AP) has been formally appointed as AP's director
general of police (DGP). An order to this effect was issued on Tuesday. His
selection has followed the due process laid down by the SC and the UPSC. He has
been holding the post of the state DGP of AP since end-May Sawang
has worked at various positions during his career, including DIG of Maoist-hit
Warangal district. The Greyhounds, the elite force created to tackle Maoist,
are his brainchild. He
also worked as a commissioner in the United Nations (UN) police in Liberia.
