The
focus of the Modi government seems to be more on India Railways as it is taking
several measures to make it more efficient and secured and in one such move it
has renamed its security force Railway Protection Force as Indian Railway
Protection Force Service (IRPFS). Besides
that the ministry also accorded organised Group A status to RPF and renamed it.
Consequent upon grant of organized group A status to RPF in view of the Cabinet
decision arising from honourable court’s orders, the RPF will now be known as
Indian Railway Protection Force Service. Union
Cabinet in July 2019 approved grant of Organised Group ‘A’ status to the RPF
which gave its personnel the financial benefits being enjoyed by officers in
other government cadres. The government will accord ‘top priority’ in the grant
of Non-Functional Upgradation, which will benefit IRPFS personnel.
