In consonance with the Union Cabinet’s decision on 25 December 2019 The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced the re-organization of the Railway Board on functional lines. Accordingly; Further, Rajesh Tiwari (IRSEE), Member (Traction) was re-designated as OSD (Safety) by utilizing the existing vacant post of DG (Safety) in Apex Scale as an interim measure till the superannuation of P C Sharma on 30.09.2020. Rajesh Tiwari will replace PC Sharma as Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) Railway Board on 01.10.2020. Further, three Apex Scale posts i.e. Member (Staff), Member (Engineering) and Member (Material Management) in Railway Board were surrendered and the post of Member (Rolling Stock) was utilized for the creation of Director General (HR) in Apex Scale. It may be added that the merger of eight major Indian Railways cadres into one single service (Indian Railway Management Service, IRMS) is expected to be completed by the month of November this year. To finalize its modalities, Indian Railways has hired consultancy firm McKinsey and Company.
