reddys-repatriation-aftermath   The way repatriation of M Gopal Reddy (IAS:1985:MP) was executed is counted as rarest in its category in the recent past. It has not only perplexed the power corridors but has also triggered a series of speculations about the reason. This degree of curiosity is but natural given the fact that Reddy was considered one of the most powerful officers in MHA after Home Secretary.   The beginning and the end of his tenure as Additional Secretary has one thing in common: both look like a special case. First, he failed to find his name on the Additional secretary empanelment list published on 23rd June 2015. On 30th November 2015 he was given 03 months extension in central deputation tenure and 07 days later (On 07th December 2015) Reddy got empanelled as AS. Immediately after the empanelment he was, on 22nd December 2015, in-situ appointed as Additional Secretary. It was considered remarkable as a JS level post was temporarily upgraded from JS to AS to post him as Additional Secretary, Home. Further, he was assigned with all critical important assignments such as Police-I, Police-II and UT. There was a common perception at North Block that Reddy enjoyed the confidence of his bosses more than any other MHA officials. All was well till 31st March when things took an ugly turn for him and he was repatriated without any prior notice.   Though it appears unlikely but people in power corridors say that even the senior most authorities in MHA did not have an inkling of the happenings. The swiftness of DoPT under the direct instruction from PMO left even the senior most authorities clueless about the development till the order was served suddenly in the early hours of 31st March. Recently a newspaper reported that his unceremonious repatriation had something to do with his role in police modernisation and some transfer/appointments of UT cadre IPS officers.
