New Delhi (12.11.2025): The Government of India, on Wednesday, assigned the additional charge of the highly sensitive post of Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat, to Parag Jain (IPS: 1989: PB). Jain currently holds the pivotal position of Secretary, Research & Analysis Wing (R&AW) under the Cabinet Secretariat.
The key assignment comes amid a renewed focus on national security matters, including the ongoing investigation into the recent Delhi car blast.
The post had been without a regular incumbent since the retirement of Harinath Mishra in July this year. Since then, Manoj Govil (IAS: 1991: MP), Secretary (Coordination), Cabinet Secretariat, had been holding the temporary charge until the assignment of Jain on November 12, 2025.
The Secretary (Security) serves as the administrative head of the Special Protection Group (SPG). The crucial mandate of the role includes overseeing the security of the Prime Minister and his immediate family, coordinating national security policy, and ensuring effective liaison with key intelligence and enforcement agencies.
