Punjab soon to have 14 DGP rank officers

Chandigarh (18.01.2023): Punjab police will soon have 14 IPS officers of DGP rank as eight 1993-batch ADGP rank officers are likely to get promoted. These officers include Gurpreet Kaur Deo (ADGP, community affairs division and women affairs), Varinder Kumar (chief director, vigilance bureau), Ishwar Singh (ADGP, human resource development), Jitendra Kumar Jain (ADGP, PSPCL), Satish Kumar Asthana (ADGP, policy and rules), Shashi Prabha Dwivedi (ADGP, Railways), Rajendra Namdeo Dhoke (ADGP, internal security and enforcement director, mining) and Arpit  Shukla (ADGP, law and order).
 The departmental promotion or screening committee meeting was held on January 17, 2023. An ADGP-rank officer becomes eligible for promotion to the rank of DGP on completion of 30 years of service as an IPS officer. Currently, six IPS officers of DGP rank are serving in the state, including Gaurav Yadav (IPS: 1992: PB), who continues to hold the additional charge of Punjab DGP since July 4, 2022. Four DGP-rank officers from Punjab are on central deputation, including Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Samant Kumar Goel (IPS: 1984: PB), National Investigation Agency (NIA) chief Dinkar Gupta (IPS: 1984: PB), special secretary in RAW Parag Jain (IPS: 1989: PB), additional director-general Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and head of Guwahati-based Eastern Command Harpreet Singh Sidhu (IPS: 1992: PB). Goel got the second extension of service as RAW chief till June 2023.
