New Delhi (26.04.2021): Amid a controversy among lawyers and advocates, 1998 batch IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh opted out as a member of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana disciplinary committee.

On a written request from him, the committee withdrew his cooption.

Vijay was enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana and co-opted as a member of its disciplinary committee by the bar council chairman on Friday.

However, his cooption triggered a controversy as some of the Council members felt that he didn't have enough respect for lawyers and advocates and had even accused them of siding with the accused in certain cases.

After pointing out that even as a police officer, he remained co-opted as a member of the Legal Education Committee of BCI (Bar Council of India) and that showed the respect he has in the legal fraternity, he opted out of the committee.
