The Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government on Saturday appointed Paramveer Singh (IPS:1988:MH) as the new Police Commissioner of Mumbai replacing Sanjay Barve (IPS:1987:MH) who completed his second extended tenure today. It may be underlined that the Maharashtra ACB headed by Paramveer Singh had given a clean chit to Ajit Pawar, currently Deputy CM, in connection with alleged scam involving Irrigation projects. Further, Sanjay Barve was recently embroiled in a controversy over granting the work for digitising Mumbai Police records to a firm which was owned by his son and wife pro bono (without charging money).
