Two senior IAS officials from Uttar Pradesh have been deemed to have resigned from the service for overstaying on their foreign postings, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), based on new rules that stipulate that an IAS, IPS and IFS officers overstaying on foreign assignments or remaining on unauthorised leave will lose their jobs
Atul Bagai, a 1983 batch officer, is deemed to have resigned from the service with effect from August 24, 2005, as he has been absent without authorization beyond the period approved by the central government, the order said.
Similarly, Sanjay Bhatia, who is from 1990 batch, is deemed to have resigned from the service with effect from March 7, 2009, for being absent without authorization for a period exceeding one year from the date of expiry of sanctioned leave or permission, the order said.
According to official records, Bagai was posted in Bangkok in July 2000 and Bhatia was given foreign posting in January 2005.
