The appointment of a new Maharashtra DGP in place of Datta Padsalgikar, who is retiring on February 28, may be delayed as the panel formed to review the six names put forward for the post is yet to meet. In that scenario, the additional charge will be given to the senior-most IPS officer in the DG office.

Meantime, some IPS officers have made a case that an additional DG-level officer should be appointed as Mumbai CP, and not a DG-level officer as has been done in the recent past.

In view of the forthcoming nationallection, over two dozen IPS officers have been relocated. Kolhapur range IG Vishwas Nagare Patil has been appointed chief in place of Ravindra Singhal, who has been shifted as Aurangabad range IG.

The other transfers include Suhas Warke (Kolhapur range IG), P P Mutyal (special IG, Nanded), F K Patil (special IG, CID, Pune), Sunil Ramanand (IG, Maharashtra State Security Corporation), Datta Karale (Addl CP, Thane), Pratap Dighavkar (DIG-Prevention of atrocities against women), Sanjay Darade (Sales tax dept, Mumbai), Punjab Ugale (SP, Jalgaon ), Sunil Kadasane (Nashik ACB Superintendent), Harish Baijal (SRPF, Dhule), Ishu Sindhu (SP, Ahmednagar) and Ranjankumar Sharma (Nagpur-crime). An IPS officer said routine transfers will take place after the polls.
