795The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved 100 per cent acquisition of NEEPCO by NTPC Ltd and also approved 74.50 per cent acquisition of THDC India Ltd by NTPC Ltd from the government. NTPC is a Maharatna company having business activity in power generation through coal-based thermal power plants. It is also engaged in the business of electricity generation through hydro and renewable sources. THDC is a government company with 74.50 per cent of its total shares held by the Centre and 25.50 per cent by the Uttar Pradesh government. NEEPCO is a power utility, primarily operating in the north-eastern region of India. The principal business activity is generation of power through hydro, thermal and solar power stations.
