NTPC-ONGC sign MoU to start a Joint Venture for Renewable Energy business

NTPC and ONGC have signed an MoU to set up a Joint Venture Company for the Renewable Energy business. This will enable both the companies to accelerate their mark in the field of Renewable Energy. The ONGC has an ambition of adding 10 GW of renewable power to its portfolio by 2040.

The two companies will explore the setting up of offshore wind and other Renewable Energy Projects in India as well as overseas with this tie-up. Both the companies will seek opportunities in the area of sustainability, storage, E-mobility, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) compliant projects.

The tie-up will enhance NTPC’s Renewable Energy capacity addition program and also the presence of ONGC in the Renewable Power business.

NTPC: D K Patel takes charge as Director, HR

Dilip Kumar Patel, on Wednesday took charge as new Director (Human Resources), NTPC. He succeeded Saptarshi Roy who retired yesterday i.e. 31.03.2020. PESB had selected Patel for the post on 18.09.2019 and ACC had endorsed his appointment on 2.12.2020. He will have a tenure till the date of his superannuation i.e. 30.04.2024.

Patel has been the HR Head in various NTPC projects like NSPCL Bhilai, Sipat, and Tanda for around 12 years. He was also the Regional Head of HR in the Eastern Region-2, before he was appointed as the Director (HR).

He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from NIT, Rourkela and did his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (HR & Finance) from MDI, Gurgaon.

He started his career in NTPC way back in 1986 as an Engineering Executive Trainee (XI batch) and had over more than three decades of the experience. After gaining work experience in (Mechanical Maintenance & CHP Operation) and Employee Development Centre (EDC) at Korba, he took a leap in his career and switched to core HR functions in 1997. Later he moved on to become the Head of HR at Koldam where the first hydro project of NTPC was launched.

NTPC flexes muscle, augments capacity: A glance

India’s largest power company, NTPC ( National Thermal Power Corporation Limited)  on Wednesday announced the increase of its total installed capacity to 58,816 MW with the commissioning of the second unit of 660 MW at Khargone Super Thermal Power Project in Madhya Pradesh.

The present installed capacity of NTPC group comprises 55 NTPC stations which include 24 coal-based, seven combined cycle gas and liquid fuel, two hydro, one Wind, 11 solar PV projects and ten joint venture stations. The capacity will have a diversified fuel mix and by 2032, non-fossil fuel-based generation capacity shall make up nearly 30 percent of NTPC’s portfolio.

NTPC has been operating its plants at high-efficiency levels. Although the company has 15.56 percent of the total national capacity, it contributes 22.74 percent of total power generation due to its focus on high efficiency.

NTPC Limited is an Indian public sector undertaking engaged in the business of generation of electricity and allied activities. It is India’s largest energy conglomerate with roots planted way back in 1975 to accelerate power development in India. It is a company incorporated under the Companies Act 1956 and is promoted by the government of India.

The public-sector head-hunter (PESB) on Monday selected Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya (ED, NTPC) for the post of Director (Projects), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC); a post which fell vacant after the retirement of Susanta Roy.

Subject to requisite clearances and ACC approval Bhattacharya may be appointed as Director (Projects), NTPC Limited.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved 100 per cent acquisition of NEEPCO by NTPC Ltd and also approved 74.50 per cent acquisition of THDC India Ltd by NTPC Ltd from the government.

NTPC is a Maharatna company having business activity in power generation through coal-based thermal power plants. It is also engaged in the business of electricity generation through hydro and renewable sources.

THDC is a government company with 74.50 per cent of its total shares held by the Centre and 25.50 per cent by the Uttar Pradesh government. NEEPCO is a power utility, primarily operating in the north-eastern region of India. The principal business activity is generation of power through hydro, thermal and solar power stations.

The public-sector headhunter (PESB), on Wednesday, selected Ramesh Babu V for the post of Director (Operations), NTPC Limited. Presently he is Executive Director, NTPC Limited. Altogether Six candidates appeared before the selection board for interview held at PESB today.

Subject to requisite clearances and ACC approval Ramesh Babu V will replace Prakash Tiwari; the outgoing Director (Operations) retiring on April 30, 2020.
