As is his wont to make big reforms in selection of board-level positions in CPSEs under his control, the newly appointed PESB Chairman Sanjay Kothari swings into action by initiating bold measures even though he has not completed one month in his present assignment. On 23 December, Chairman Kothari called up a meeting to discuss the qualification and experience criteria to be sought for the post of Director (Finance) and Director (HR) with various stakeholders. In addition to board members Anshuman Das, Ms Gauri Kumar and Madhusudan Prasad, prominent invitees included Girish Shankar, Secretary, Dept of Heavy Industries; Ms Seema Bahuguna, Secretary, Dept of Public Enterprise; Gurdeep Singh, Chairman & Managing Director, NTPC, as well as some top executives working as Director (Fin) and Director (HR) in various CPSEs. The criteria which would be finalized with this wide consultative process would also be put in the public domain to invite the opinion of the experts as well as the public at large. This process is seen as designed to impart more transparency to the selection process and remove the opacity which has been continuing in the PESB's selection process for years.
