New Delhi (02.02.2026): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented Union Budget 2026 in the Lok Sabha on February 1. But the chief Architect of Budget 2026 was Anuradha Thakur (IAS: 1994: HP) along with several other IAS officers who were part of the Budget team under FM Nirmala Sitharaman. They included Vumlunmang Vualnam (IAS: 1992: MN), Expenditure Secretary, Arvind Shrivastava (IAS: 1994: KN), Revenue Secretary, M Nagaraju (IAS: 1993: TR), Financial Services Secretary, Arunish Chawla (IAS: 1992: BH), Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), K Moses Chalai (IAS: 1990: MN), Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, V Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Adviser.
Anuradha Thakur, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), assumed office on July 1, 2025. She is chief architect of Union Budget 2026-27, which is her first Budget after been appointed at that position. FM Nirmala Sitharam presented her 9th budget and third full budget under Prime Minister Narendra Modi 3.0 government. She is second only to Morarji Desai in presenting the most budgets.
