Thiruvananthapuram (05.02.2022): An accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case M Sivasankar (IAS: 1995: KL) is coming out with an autobiographical book narrating his version of the controversial episode. The book is titled 'Ashwathamavu Oru Aana' (Ashwathamavu is only an elephant). Ashwathama is a name that connects one act of dishonesty by Yudhishtira who otherwise is known to abide by Dharma. In Mahabharata, Yudhishtira used the name 'Ashwathama' to trick Dronacharya during the Kurukshetra war. Hearing that Ashwathama had died, Drona believed that his son, who goes by the same name was dead.
According to excerpts from the book, the senior bureaucrat who was arrested in the case in 2020 has rejected all the charges leveled against him by the central agencies.
In his book, Sivasankar portrays Swapna Suresh as the one behind the gold smuggling racket. He comments that he was extremely shocked to learn of Swapna's involvement and that he was trapped by her. It was her illegal appointment to a government position that got Sivasankar suspended from his position as the Principal Secretary to the CM. The excerpts of the book were released in a literary magazine.
