As many as four senior Gujarat-cadre officers are said to have developed lifestyle stress - all of them at the same time towards the end of February.
One of the senior most officers S K Nanda (Retd IAS:1978: cardio-vascularGJ), currently Member of the advisory committee of the NDMA, recently underwent angiography to rule out any cardiovascular blockage after he felt uneasy due to rising BP and heart rate while boarding a plane to Delhi on 'Mahashivratri'. It is also believed that probably it was a result of chemical pneumonitis after what he vomited accidentally entered his windpipe.
S Murlikrishna (IAS:1998: GJ) was also hospitalized with heart-related complaints whereas P K Taneja (IAS:1984: GJ), ACS (Industry & Mines), retired on 28 February from hospital. He spent his last day in service while admitted in hospital. He, too, is suffering from heart-related problem. The incumbent Chief Secretary J N Singh (IAS:1983: GJ) is safe after a brief cardio-vascular related ailment a couple of days back.
In this escalating incidents of cardio-vascular problems, many see the increasing work pressure on Gujarat officers.
