The news last week of senior Maharashtra cadre IPS officer V V Lakshminarayana seeking VRS spread like wild fire triggering equally wild speculations in official & political circles across the country. It has taken a week for speculations to subside and a clear picture to emerge. It is now known that Lakshminarayan (popularly known as JD for his stint in CBI as Jt Director) is being groomed to take a leadership role, something like a Working President post, in Jana Sena. The buzz started doing the rounds is that he is encouraged by one of the country's former top cops to counter Chandrababu Naidu's influence in Andhra politics by splitting Kapu votes in 2019 General Elections.
Even though JD is said to have cited personal reasons for seeking the VRS, he appears to be in hurry to be relieved so that he could 'develop' his adopted village in Mehbubnagar district of Telangana state. Social work is perfectly legitimate and worthy cause for his premature detachment from the government.
By the way, JD is seen in official circles as someone close to Andhra Governor Narasimhan. BJP bigwigs feel JD has very good credibility in Telugu states. And because he belongs to the Kapu community which has been disenchanted with Chandra Babu Naidu's unconcealed attempt to promote his Khamma community officials all over the attempt, BJP's calculation is that JD may help the party break the dominance of Chandra Babu and enable it to negotiate with all political groupings in the 2019 national elections from a position of strength.
The sum and substance of JD choosing to do social work is that the BJP is trying to emerge on its own in Telgu states like the neighbouring Karnataka by way of creating a new coalition of social forces.
