Maharashtra may see a major change in
responsibilities of its senior IPS officers following the MHA rejection of a
state government proposal to extend the services of current DGP D D Padsalgikar (IPS:1982:MH) for two years effective from July 1, 2018, to end-June 2020. Padsalgikar's
current extension ends on February 28, 2019. It is in the air that Mumbai police
commissioner Subodh Kumar Jaiswal (IPS:1985:MH), the senior-most IPS officer in the state,
may replace Padsalgikar. However, while appointing the new DGP, the
government will have to follow the procedure laid down by the Supreme Court. Further, in view of the forthcoming national
election, the government is said to be under pressure to make all the changes
in IPS ranks at the earliest.
