The coveted post of Chief Secretary to the Government of J&K is set to fall vacant on August 31 as the incumbent CS, Mohammad Iqbal Khanday, has moved his papers seeking VRS. Reportedly, he does not want to continue beyond August 31 even though his superannuation is scheduled for November 30 this year.
Índianmandarins' has reliably learnt that Arun Kumar (IAS:1979:JK), the second senior most officer after Khanday, may be named as new Chief Secretary who has more than a year in hand to attain retirement age. The third senior most serving officer Ms Sonali Kumar (IAS:1979:JK) is scheduled for superannuation on November 30 this year whereas Khusrsheed Ahmad Ganai (IAS:1982:JK), next to Ms Kumar, will superannuate on October 31 this year. Interestingly, Brij Raj Sharma's name (IAS:1984:JK) has also been doing rounds for the post.
The senior most officer Arun Kumar may be picked up for the top job but there are inputs that B R Sharma can also be considered for the top job.
Índianmandarins' further learns that the search of successor of Khanday has put J&K Government under immense pressure as picking centre's choice may lead to more resignations of state cadres.
Keep watching the move.
