Three months after being scolded by the Supreme Court for fixing the maximum price of medicines above the retail price of leading companies, the government has taken the first step towards reviewing the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) 2013. Indianmandarins has learnt that an inter-ministerial committee has been constituted to look into the drug pricing mechanism, specifically in the market-based pricing formula which is currently used under DPCO 2013. There have been complaints that drug companies have been making profits running into thousands of percent The committee is made up of representatives from Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Health, National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) and Department of Pharmaceuticals.
