New Delhi (27.06.2023): When elections are
close any change in administration is viewed from that perspective only. So
when senior IPS officer Vikram Thakur (UP: 1996) was transferred from Uttar
Pradesh cadre to Rajasthan on the grounds of his marriage with Binita Thakur
(IPS: 1996: RJ) after around 27 years of service in Uttar Pradesh, the clichéd
argument was bound to pop up. The rare decision came after the
clearance (NoC) of respective state governments – the BJP-ruled government in
Uttar Pradesh and the Congress-ruled government, but a large section of senior
IPS and IAS officers belonging to UP and Rajasthan cadres term the
extraordinary decision as something very personal to them and a humanitarian
gesture of concerned governments towards two very upright and capable officers
of Indian bureaucracy. It is true that for many others, it
remained unexplained that if these two officers did not seek cadre change when
they got married, why now? Insiders firmly believe it justified and
humanitarian one. People may say on this that there is something more than
meets the eye in this case but for a section of insiders of bureaucracy
appreciates the Centre’s move on a humanitarian ground. Currently, Thakur is
working as Joint Director Intelligence Bureau.
