Instead of stepping into the shoes of her civil servant father, Ira Trivedi chose to tread a different path that has brought her into the list of the current years' Top 100 BBC global personalities.
Ira is the daughter of veteran civil servant Vishwapati Trivedi (IAS:1977:MP), Chairman, National Shipping Board, and a niece of MP's famous political Shukla brothers - Shyama Charan Shukla and Vidya Charan Shukla. Ira also shares a close relationship with civil servants namely Prajapati Trivedi, Aradhana Shukla (IAS:1989:UP).
Ira is a Master of Yoga having been imparted the Acharya training from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre. She has studied and taught yoga around the world. She is also a writer of eminence.
Through her writing, teaching and not-for-profit work, Ira has been sensitizing minds, bodies, and spirits to feel the oneness that we are all part of. Her written works include India in Love: Marriage and Sexuality in the 21st century; What Would You Do to Save the World (Penguin Books); The Great Indian Love Story; and There's No Love on Wall Street. She writes both fiction and non-fiction. Her non-fiction works and journalism focus on issues of women and gender in India. Her recent book My Book of Yoga, a book of yoga for children introducing the character of Om the Yoga Dog, came out on the International Yoga Day, 21 June 2016.
Ira has also been writing for publications like Foreign Affairs (US), Times of India, Hindustan Times, India Today, Hindu, DNA, Deccan Chronicle, The Telegraph, Femina, Marie Claire, and Cosmopolitan. Her writing is mostly on issues of gender and culture in India. Trivedi regularly appears on news channels in India and internationally speaking on issues of gender, women, and youth.
Ira has a yoga show, Yogaira on India Today TV. In 2017, it was the number one health and wellness show in the country.
She speaks at colleges in India and around the world including Indian Institutes of Management, Indian Institutes of Technology, and National Institutes of Technology. She has delivered a TED talk and several TEDx talks.
