The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Tuesday assigned
the additional charge of CMD, HUDCO to Dr M Nagaraj, Director (Corporate
Planning). For over ninety days of uncertainty HUDCO appears to have gathered rays
of clarity. It may be mentioned that the erstwhile CMD Dr M Ravi Kanth demitted
office on December 20, 2019 but it took the ministry over two weeks to assign
the additional charge of CMD post. After Dr Kanth completed his extended tenure on October 10,
2019 top officials remained completely clueless over the extension/non-extension.
Dr Kanth still continued as CMD expecting ACC’s decision over
extension/non-extension. Had Dr Kanth given extension he would have continued
till November 2020. But in the backdrop of non-extension of former GAIL CMD B C
Tripathy and former NBCC CMD Dr A K Mittal it was unlikely for Dr Kanth too to
get extension. But those in the affairs say that differences between the top
authorities of the ministry and HUDCO had added to the uncertainty. Surprisingly, public-sector headhunter too had not advertised
the CMD post leaving the senior management clueless over the fate of the Board
management.
