New Delhi (26.07.2024): Union Minister for Steel and Heavy
Industries H D Kumaraswamy, Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju
Srinivasa Varma in the presence Secretary Steel N N Sinha (IAS: 1987: JH) launched
the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) V 2.0. This moment marks a
significant milestone in Ministry of Steel’s ongoing commitment to enhancing
transparency, efficiency, and accountability within India's steel import
sector. It is a new portal with upgraded features to oversee the
import of steel products into India. SIMS V 1.0 developed and made operational
with effect from November 1, 2019 by DGFT. In February 2024, decision was taken
to develop and host an upgraded version of SIMS 2.0 by Ministry of Steel. The launch of the SIMS 2.0 portal has been identified as a
100-day action item by the government, adding urgency to the project.
Considering these time constraints and the complex requirements of the project,
MSTC, a CPSE under Ministry of Steel having extensive experience in system
development, was engaged for the development of SIMS 2.0. MSTC Ltd has developed SIMS 2.0 Portal in record time
crashing the development cycle time of the project from nearly an year for a
project of this nature, to just two months from project start to going live.
