Call it a flicker of democracy or quirk of destiny, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari presides over a mini-Harvard club in his ministry, though he himself holds a post-grad and LL.B degree from Nagpur university. That may account for live-wire performance of his ministry that has riveted the attention and jealousy of his colleagues and foes alike.
Among the Harvardians working with him are Sanjay Mitra (IAS:1982:WB), Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways; Rajive Kumar (IAS:1981:UP), Shipping Secretary; Raghav Chandra (IAS:1982:MP), Chairman, NHAI; and Rohit Kumar Singh (IAS:1989:RJ), Jt Secretary (Highways). Needless to say, the common Alma Mater binds these officers and has unleashed the synergy of the kind not seen in too many ministries.
