Former UT cadre IAS tipped as Member, CERC

Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that the NaMo administration has picked  Arun Goyal (Retd IAS:1985:UT) for the post of Member, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). Goyal retired August last year from the post of Secretary (Coordination), Cabinet Secretariat. Until last week name of CMD of a Central PSU did rounds for the key position.

Presently, Dr P K Pujari is Chairman of CERC whereas Indu Sheskhar Jha and Dr M K Iyer are Members. Subject to ACC approval Goyal will replace the outgoing Member Dr M K Iyer completing his tenure next month.


The Commission (CERC) aims at fostering the interests of power consumers by promoting competition, efficiency and economy in bulk power markets, improving the quality of supply, promoting investments and advising government on the removal of institutional barriers to bridge the demand supply gap.
