New Delhi (21.09.2024): The Centre has notified appointment of five Additional Judges as permanent in Madras High Court. This is very interesting to note that out of five judges, three are women. The appointment of Justice Victoria Gowri in 2023 as Additional Judge had attracted controversy after certain videos containing her alleged hate speeches surfaced. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court challenging her appointment on the ground of her alleged hate speeches. The petition was dismissed by the Court saying that the suitability of a candidate approved by the collegium cannot be judicially reviewed.

The judges are:
  1. Justice Lekshmana Chandra Victoria Gowri
  2. Justice Pillaipakkam Bahutkutumbi Balaji
  3. Justice Kandhasami Kulandaivelu Ramakrishnan
  4. Justice Ramachandran Kalaimathi
  5. Justice K Govindarajan Thilakavadi
