Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya joined the Indian Police
Service in 1973 when even working women were not encouraged. Former DGP of Uttarakhand,
the first ever woman DGP of a state, died in Mumbai on August 26, 2019 night
after a prolonged illness. She was appointed as the DGP of Uttarakhand in the
year 2004 and retired on October 31, 2007. She tried her hands into politics
when she contested 2014 Lok Sabha election from Haridwar as an Aam Aadmi Party
candidate but she could not make it.
