Amid COVID-19 crisis and the Madhya Pradesh government finding it difficult to function, five BJP leaders on April 21 have taken oath as cabinet ministers in the first expansion of the council of ministers in Madhya Pradesh.

Five ministers included a woman and two former MLAs sworn in by Governor Lalji Tandon in the Raj Bhawan. BJP leader Narottam Mishra along with Kamal Patel, Meena Singh, Tulsi Silawat and Govind Singh Rajput took oath as minister in the first cabinet expansion after Shivraj Singh Chouhan returned to power after a small stint of Kamal Nath as CM.

Chouhan took oath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on March 23 following the resignation of 22 Congress MLAs that led to the fall of Kamalnath-led Congress government. Chouhan was present at the ceremony. The state was without a cabinet since last two months owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
