Five farmers from Surat challenged the land acquisition process of Gujarat government at the Gujarat High Court. However, Gujarat High Court refused to stay the land acquisition process for the Mumbai-Ahemdabad Bullet train project. The high court issued notices to the Center, State government and the National High Speed Rail Corporation(NHSRC) which is implementing this mega project, seeking their replies and fixed August 8th as the next date of hearing.
The council for the farmers argued that high-speed rail project concerns more than one state including Maharashtra and Gujarat and therefore only the center can acquire land for this project. Based on the plea of farmers, land acquisition issue will be decided by Gujarat High Court on August 8.
