New Delhi (25.02.2021): The ESIC Regional Office Ahmedabad has launched a scheme to empanel private hospitals to ensure medical facilities for its beneficiaries in case there is no ESI healthcare system available within a 10KM radius of the residence of an ESIC member.

The scheme was launched as part of the celebration of the ESIC day on 24 February each year to mark the day 69 years ago when the ESI scheme was launched for the first time in Delhi and Kanpur.

According to ESIC Additional Commissioner & Regional Director, Gujarat, Ratnesh Kumar Gautam, the scheme for the empanelling of private hospitals was formulated at the national HQ.

Addressing officers and staff on the ESIC day, Gautam appealed to them to make special efforts for speedy disposal of benefit claims of insured persons in case of death/disability and clearance of pending bills of all stakeholders. He further directed a speedy redressal of Public Grievances - preferably ‘On spot solution’.

He pointed out that the Claim and Benefits Branch of Gujarat Regional office have innovated the idea of conducting a spot medical board for assessment of loss of earning capacity of a worker member and issuance of pension certificate indicating rate and disability percentage.

He added that his team has successfully planned and executed medical boards for examination and assessment of permanent disability of the workers due to employment injury wherein insured persons have been awarded disability certificates of disability and the insured persons will be awarded a lifetime pension on the basis of his/her level of disability.

He said the permanent disablement benefit (PDB) is paid at the rate of 90% of wages in the form of monthly payment depending upon the extent of loss of earning capacity as certified by a Medical Board to Insured Persons. The whole process from the assessment of loss of earning capacity to the issuance of pension certificate takes around 1-2 months.

The Ahmedabad Regional Office has also bagged a first prize for the progressive use of Hindi.
