However, the ushering in of the NDA administration in May 2014, which introduced strict monitoring of ministries and officials, dampened the spirits of lobbyists. Nevertheless, some of them have turned out to be die hard. One of the lobbyist groups is the medical education lobby that is said to still enjoy considerable influence. As an example of their influence, an unprovoked transfer of a senior official is cited. Besides, officials tend to suspect that the non-empanelment of three senior IAS officers for Additional Secretary rank posts (GoI) may also be the handiwork of this medical education lobby, although these officials are said to have been bypassed in the 360-degree evaluation process. It is said that Vishwas Mehta (IAS:1986:KL), Debasish Panda (IAS:1988:UP) and Arun Singhal (IAS:1988:AM) who were once in charge of 'Medical education' as Joint Secretaries in Govt of India enjoy fair and credible reputation. So their non-empanelment to hold additional secretary rank posts may have been a mere coincidence but it has only added avoidable grist to the rumor mill.
