The DG of Electronics and Communication Systems vertical at DRDO Dr Jillelamudi Manjulla has emerged as a frontrunner for the post of DRDO chief. There are two contenders for this position including G Satheesh Reddy and Dr Manjulla. Indianmandarins has learnt that Ms Manjulla may be named as successor to Dr Christopher who completed his extended service tenure on May 28. Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra has been holding the additional charge of DRDO till the appointment of a regular incumbent.
The search committee has considered three senior most scientists of DRDO, besides the first woman to have made it to the post of DG, DRDO.
G Satheesh Reddy (Missile scientists), Sudhir Mishra (Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister and the head of Brahmos missile project). Mishra and Reddy come from the missile scientist community that has traditionally occupied the top positions at DRDO. Few weeks back Pravin K Mehta, who heads the Pune based Armament cluster of DRDO, was also in this race.
