Dr K Gopal is Development Commissioner, Handicrafts (GoI)

Dr Koothati Gopal (IAS1992:TN) has been appointed Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Joint Secretary level post, under the Ministry of Textiles. He replaces Ms Pushpa Subrahmanyam (IAS:1985:TG) with a tenure up to 27 Feburary 2018.
Dr Gopal, resident of Andhra Pradesh and MBBS in Medicine Surgery, was in DOPT on compulsory wait since 09 November 2015. While serving in the cadre state he acquired wide experience in the fields of health & family welfare, urban development, woman & child development, finance.
During his first stint under central deputation he served with UNICEF as Project Director (June 2005 to August 2006). Further he took over as Chairman, Tobaco Board (Ministry of Commerce, GoI) on February 2013 and served on the post till 09 November 2015.
