Mangalagiri (17.08.2024): A strange order passed by the office of Telangana DGP has invited criticism from several All India Services officers across Cadres and batches. The order dated 12.08.2024 has instructed around 16 IPS officers in the rank of DGP and SP awaiting posting orders (APO), to sign in the attendance register kept in the officer's waiting room. They have been asked to be ready to attend urgent work that may be assigned by the DGP. Officers have also been instructed to sign out before leaving the office for the day.
The list of the officers awaiting posting orders is as follows:
  • P S R Anjaneyulu (IPS: 1992: AP)- DGP
  • P V Sunil Kumar (IPS: 1993: AP)- DGP
  • N Sanjay (IPS: 1996: AP)- Additional DGP
  • Kanthi Rana Tata (IPS: 2004: AP)- IG
  • G Pala Raju (IPS: 2005: AP)- IG
  • Kolli Raghuram Reddy (IPS: 2006: AP)- IG
  • R N Ammi Reddy (IPS: 2009: AP)- DIG
  • Ch Vijaya Rao (IPS: 2010: AP)- DIG
  • Vishal Gunni (IPS: 2010: AP)- DIG
  • Anburajan K K N (IPS: 2011: AP)- SP
  • Y Ravi Shankar Reddy (IPS: AP)- SP
  • Y Rishanth Reddy (IPS: 2016: AP)- SP
  • K Raghuveera Reddy (IPS: 2016: AP)- SP
  • P Parmeshwar Reddy IPS- - SP
  • P Joshua IPS- - SP
  • Krishna Kanth Patel (IPS: 2018: AP)- - SP
A section of IPS officers belonging to other states termed it not only strange and unforeseen but unfortunate as well. Many senior IPS officers opined that uniformed services are integral part of the field formation in the state and are driven by discipline, trust, mutual respect and SOPs. Police forces are rule sticklers yet a bookish approach rarely works as it does not solve complex problems. On many occasion decisions and orders are passed verbally and any sort of trust deficit is detrimental to the smooth working of forces.
Another section of officers said that such orders are uncalled for, it hurt the self-esteem of the officers and get exposed during unfortunate incidents and big events.
Contrary to the views and criticism Indianmandarins learnt that the state DGP was constrained to pass such orders. Reportedly, most of the officers awaiting posting orders lived in Hyderabad instead of headquarters. APO is considered 'on active duty' but virtually it turned out to be absence from PHQ that led to such a unique order. But there were other options as well and in one such option, they could have been advised to stay at IPS officers guest house in Vijaywada.
