New Delhi (04.03.2026): In a major administrative overhaul, Delhi Police witnessed a sweeping reshuffle. The restructuring involved high-level postings of IPS officers in the rank of Director General and a significant reorganization of middle-rung twenty DANIPS cadre officials.
New DGs for Prisons, Civil Defence and Home:
Virender Singh (IPS: 1991: UT), who was previously serving as Director General, Civil Defence (Delhi), was been transitioned to the role of Director General, Home Guards (Delhi).
Further, two senior officers who recently reported back to the Delhi administration have been assigned pivotal leadership roles.
Anand Mohan (IPS: 1994: UT) was posted as the Director General (Prisons). He will oversee the Tihar, Rohini, and Mandoli prison complexes—a role that has been vacant since the end of January.
Surendra Singh Yadav (IPS: 1997: UT) was posted as the Director General, Civil Defence. Yadav recently returned to the cadre after a premature repatriation from his central deputation at the BSF.
The DANIPS Shake-up:
Simultaneously, the reshuffle extended to the DANIPS (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli Police Service) cadre. Twenty officers from the 2009 to 2016 batches, currently serving as Deputy Police Commissioners (DCP) and Additional DCPs, have been assigned new roles.
This middle-management rejig is aimed at district policing, specialized units and administrative streamlining.
