Two months have passed since Sanjay Kothari (Retd IAS:1978:HY) was selected as the new Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) by a majority decision but oath and joining is yet to take place. Speculation is rife about reasons for inordinate delay in his joining. Kothari presently the Secretary to the President was selected on February 19, 2020 as the next CVC; a post which has been lying vacant from June 10, 2019. It may be underlined that the Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had opposed the decision while it was supported by other members in the panel -- Union Home Minister Amit Shah, MoS for PMO and Personnel Jitendra Singh, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Secretary Personnel C Chandramouli. Vigilance Commissioner Sharad Kumar (Retd IPS:1979:HY) was named as interim CVC after K V Chowdary completed his term on June 09, 2019. Following the selection, Kothari’s oath as CVC is yet to take place.
