'Achchey din' seems to have dawned for the former IPS D G Vanzara who walked free on Wednesday after spending seven and half years in jail. The Special CBI court had granted him bail on February 5 in the fake encounter case of Ishrat Jahan and three others.
If the grapevine is any guide Vanzara may shortly be given a post retirement job by the Government of Gujarat. K Kailashnathan Chief Principal Secretary to CM K Kailashnathan, had met Vanzara's brother, KG Vanzara, recently and had perhaps discussed this matter with him.
He was arrested on April 24, 2007 by CID crime in connection with the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case while serving as DCP, Crime Branch. The CBI had filed chargesheet in August 2013 saying that encounter was fake. Vanzara had filed for bail last year and had submitted that he was behind bars for more than 07 yrs and as the chargesheet was filed, he should be released on bail.
While walking free he made categorical remark that "maximum number of encounters took place in Uttar Pradesh, while in Gujarat it was the least. But then also Gujarat Police was targeted for extra legal political reasons". He embrassed the moment by saying that 'achchey din' had dawned for him.
