New Delhi (04.05.2021): The battle between ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and the MVA administration continues to expose the tragic-comic masks put on by state politicians and their subordinates in the state constabulary.

In the latest round of the comic opera that unveils the tragic plight of MVA big guns, Maharashtra DGP Sanjay Pandey (IPS:1988:MH), who is still to be confirmed in his job that was given to him out of sheer compulsion, has requested CM Uddhav Thackeray in writing for recusal from an investigation into the politically-inspired allegations of a nexus between Param Bir Singh and the underworld.

Pandey, reputed as a no-nonsense officer and blindly devoted to the pursuit of law, doesn't wish to be part of the investigation against Singh following the latter's submission in the Bombay HC that the DGP offered him a sort of settlement if he withdrew his allegations against former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

Readers may be aware that once ex-Mumbai PC, a blue-eyed boy of the MVA administration, turned hostile in the Vazegate scandal, the state government was seen to have activated its 'sleeper cells' in the state constabulary to make wild allegations against Singh and to file FIRs against him.

While these FIRs may go through the due process of law, DGP Pandey's decision not to be part of any investigations, particularly after Singh's submission of the transcript of the conversation between him and Pandey, can't but be seen fair and lawful.
